Stylin's recommended albums of the week are back with Australian-born London-based saxophonist Max Grunhard and his Quintet dropping the superb (and beautifully recorded) live set 'Vortex' for Impossible Ark. Also the Budos Band's second album for Daptone is for me even stronger than the first - raw instrumental funk spiced with Ethio-jazz flavours a la Mulatu. We had a little bracket of D&B influenced by Balkan and Indian beats and disco and including versions of Stacey Pullen and Roy Ayers classics. Speaking of surprising versions, have a listen to the latest Dan Aikido blend, putting De La Soul over an entire jazz trio piece (not just a loop)!

Stylin broadcasts live each Friday on Australia's best known community station, 3RRR-FM Melbourne.
