STYLIN 370

Brad Baloo was back in Melbourne this summer, this time without his Nextmen counterpart Dom. He gave us a batch of tunes including two new Nextmen remixes, one for Australian artist Gotye who is starting to big things in the UK and Europe. He has a new alias Acres to explore a more electronic downbeat sound and the Nextmen themselves have now signed to Universal.

As for the rest of the show, I must mention the Australian tunes with the sample-based sounds of Perth's Assembly Line, more beat science from Brisbane's Indelible, the now-expat Bennson remixed by Marc Rapson in the UK and longtime Stylin favourite Microworld with more of his deep brand of techno.

Beat royalty Waajeed and Saadiq (PPP) and Mark Pritchard (Harmonic 313) are back with much-hyped new albums, but check a little beneath the surface for the likes of Dert (with an interesting take on Bjork's music), Slumgullion, Elaquent and Dela. On the uptempo side, Pirahnahead gets dark with his new NGTVNRG (negative energy) EP, Atjazz and Mark de Clive-Lowe team up as the Epicureans, Kenny Dope remixes Marvin Gaye and Ski Oakenfull covers Level 42. Also cosmic soul fans should check out new talent Furlan Williams coming with some Mizell/Herbie influenced backing. Big up the moovmnt crew on that one.

Next show: an interview with none other than Detroit techno don Carl Craig.

Stylin broadcasts live each Friday on Australia's best known community station, 3RRR-FM Melbourne.
