one of the greatest and most influential musicians has left earth two days before 2009:
Freddie Hubbard r.i.p. - his music and his ideas, be it bop, funky or then, probably as the innovator of the whole jazz music: fusion has inspired countless musicians and his beats and music incorporate a big bunch of samples that has been used by pepe bradock (deep burnt - use of little sunflower intro), or theo parrish, moodyman, early acid jazz grooves (the mighty red clay and povo i.e.). So when goin through my Freddie Hubbard selecting and picking the tunes for the tribute, which are probably the obvious ones, but at the same time the BIG ones as well - i recognized that this man on the trumpet and as a composer has much more impact on my musical history than Miles Davis. Its Freddie Hubbards way of playing his trumpet so full of energy and being open to anything that can keep his vibe. From early Bebop to Straight Jazz and the funky Gospel inspired phase around the late 60s on labels like Blue Note. or Atlantic Records. In 1970 he recorded an album called "Red Clay" for CTI Records and the title track made me turn up the speaker to the maximum and jumping around in the soulsearching studio, enjoying his music so so much. Mr. Hubbard, i have never had the chance to see you live but i thank you for your music which means a lot to me. May you rest in peace in heaven.
In the first hour of this weeks show i was flowing free fall, meaning i was not really good prepared but got into a vibe thats maybe a soundtrack to this wonderful but damn cold winter these days. Had to kick off with a tune by legendary Can due to the fact that just before the show i confirmed the liveshow of Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit at ENZO on February 13th. Then music by the likes of Alice Russell (brandnew heavy album) , Herbie Hancock with Tina Turner (yes, indeed - a very cool cover of the Joni Mitchell classic), Alif Tree (one of the best albums forthcoming on Compost Records this year), Five Corners Quintet, Ursula Rucker, Henrik Schwarz with his masterclass remix for Detroit Experiments Überclassic Think Twice and......something very special out of Offenbach: EvieWonder - wonderful music, exclusively for soulsearching. Watch this space for more...
