STYLIN 321
Stylin returns for 2008, with a tribute to the legendary producer Joel Dorn, who passed away in December. While Joel Dorn was not a household name, many would have heard his productions, which include work with Roberta Flack on massive hits like 'Killing Me Softly' and 'Feel Like Making Love', not to mention some of Roberta's collaborations with my all-time favourite vocalist Donny Hathaway. Joel had a solid period with Atlantic Records in the late 60s and 70s, producing astounding music from jazz artists like Max Roach, Yusef Lateef and Rahsaan Roland Kirk. After a quieter period in the 80s, I came across his name again producing my favourite 90s jazz artist, drummer Leon Parker. The influence of his music has carried over to the next generation with tunes from my tribute having been sampled by hip hop artists like A Tribe Called Quest and Ice T and techno producer Ian O'Brien. New school jazz vocalist Jose James has also done a recent cover of Spirits Up Above.

We also got some new tunes in during the first hour, including a longer house bracket than I've played in a while plus the incredible new soul cut from Stacy Epps.

Stylin broadcasts live each Friday on Australia's best known community station, 3RRR-FM Melbourne.
