Straightup and Melbourne International Jazz Festival are proud to present for the first time in Australia, quite possibly one of the most important and influential musicians in the United States today.

The depth and range of Atwood-Ferguson's work is as vast as the musical pallette he draws his inspiration from. Having contributed to over 300 recordings, and countless live concerts. He has a rare gift and serious devotion and dedication to developing it; he effortlessly bridges diverse genres and generations of musical and cultural elements into cohesive and magical presentations.
Bought to the attention of the international music world in 2009 by his incredible, critically acclaimed, tribute orchestral album for the transcendent modern hip hop producer, J DILLA, "Suite For Ma Dukes" recorded live for album and DVD by Mochilla.
twood-Ferguson has worked in the studio with artists ranging from will.i.am, Dr. Dre, Flying Lotus, John Cale, Swizz Beatz, Eddie Murphy, Barry Manilow to Joss Stone, Bilal and dozens more.
He is currently doing the arrangements for Seu Jorge's new album featuring Zap Mama.
As a soloist he has worked with Quincy Jones, Ravi Coltrane, Mulatu Astatke, Saul Williams, Patrice Rushen, Wayne Shorter, Stevie Wonder, Brian Blade, Alphonse Mouzon, Airto Moreira and dozens more.
The Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble has in the past featured guest appearances by Sly Stone, Shuggie Otis, George Clinton, Seu Jorge, Leon Ware, Flying Lotus, José James, Meshell Ndegeocello, Aloe Blacc, Pharoahe Monch, and Ndugu Chancler, among others.
This year Atwood-Ferguson has been invited by Straightup and Melbourne International Jazz Festival to perform in Australia. He will be selecting from Australia's top musicians playing with guests featuring vocalists Sophia Brous and Nai Palm (Hiatus Kaiyote) and others.
With support from the brand new project from "Electric Wire Hustle" drummer, Myele Manzanza Trio (NZ), Soul and beats aficionados will recognise this young rhythmical talent from across the ditch as the drummer of acclaimed NZ act Electric Wire Hustle and perhaps in his own right as a producer. What may come as a surprise however is that Manzanza is also one of New Zealand's top Jazz drummers. Jazz music tempered with a background in traditional African Rhythm, Electronic and Soul music The Myele Manzanza Trio appear for the first time in Australia. This is going to be an unforgettable DEBUT performance from the Myele Manzanza Trio (NZ).
